For individual households, solar power is the most attractive source of renewable energy as installation and maintenance are relatively simple compared to household wind turbines. Solar Forged specifically serves the portable solar power niche. The US solar industry has seen astounding growth in recent years – jumping from 23 megawatts in 2002 to over 3,000 in 2012 (seia.org). As shown in the chart in Figure 2.1, the residential solar power market has gone from almost non-existent a decade ago, to almost 500 megawatts at the end of 2012.
